A
major emphasis of the recent creek restoration project
concentrated on the upper and middle areas of Big Meadow. Our
focus was to remove the instream 'pond-like' structures and
narrow the stream into a more natural 'spring creek' width and
flow. By bringing the stream into a more natural configuration,
we were able to increase flows, disperse fish populations, speed
up the sediment movement, and create increased fishable holding
water. The increased current has also assisted in keeping fish
channels open by hindering stream vegetation.
Both
creeks continue to have a wide varity of fishable water
including deep pools, flats, and pocket water. |
